Jack Sullivan scores Stock Car preliminary victory in Duel in the Desert
Jack Sullivan made the trek to the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Las Vegas, Nev.) on Wednesday night to take part in the 23rd annual Duel in the Desert. Pulling double duty in the Modified and Stock Car ranks, Sullivan secured his spot into the Modified preliminary feature with a second place finish in his heat behind Shane Devolder. Rolling off 23rd, Jack gained seven spots to register a 16th place outing.
In the Chanse Hollatz-owned No. 6x Stock Car, Jack notched a runner-up finish in his heat behind Jordan Grabouski, which positioned him seventh on the starting grid for the A-Main. Holding off a charging Dallon Murty, Sullivan soared to his third win of the season over Murty, Troy Burkhart, Elijah Zevenbergen, and Chase Alves. His victory secured his spot into Saturday night’s $5,000-to-win main event.
For the second round of preliminary features in his Modified on Thursday evening, Sullivan gained three spots in his heat to pick up the win. Rolling off ninth in the feature, Jack slipped back to a 15th place outing.
The following night, Jack jumped up four spots in his heat race to come in fourth. Transferring into the B-Main for another shot at the final preliminary feature, Sullivan advanced through the field six spots to place third. Improving three spots in the main event, Jack Sullivan logged a 22nd place outing.
Wrapping up the 23rd annual Duel in the Desert on Saturday, Sullivan recorded a runner-up finish in his heat behind Scott Bloomquist, giving him one final shot at the $10,000-to-win main event with a B-Main appearance. Needing to place sixth or better to make the show, Jack fell short with a 22nd place finish.
Starting the $5,000-to-win Street Stock feature in seventh, Jack clawed forward three spots to register a fourth place finish behind Zane Devilbiss, Dallon Murty, and Dan Mackenthun with Jordan Grabouski coming in fifth.
